RELATED: This Superhero Trope Is Starting To Border On Being Overdone
While it shows off some new faces like Laurie Holden’s Crimson Countess, things really seem to be more about style than substance here (in a good way). With not even a sliver of dialogue, save for a healthy peppering of anguished wails and screams of passion (as is tradition), this new teaser seems to operate on the assumption that everyone watching is already a fan. Either that, or it’s putting in the work to make newcomers morbidly curious enough for a second look at what The Boys has to offer. From broken limbs to unexpected superpowers to a more than healthy assortment of bloody explosions, this cryptic sneak peek is an oddly comprehensive look at the shoe’s whole vibe.
One nice aspect of the teaser is a set of action-packed glimpses at Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy in action. After a long time of only seeing promotional images and behind-the-scenes shots, it’s nice to finally see something with a little more meat to it. Other highlights include a lot of commercials, such as A-Train taking part in a particularly hilarious parody of Kendall Jenner’s infamously tone-deaf Pepsi ad that suggests a carbonated drink is all that’s needed to resolve tensions between oppressors and the oppressed.
Viewers will quickly notice the pretty exciting prospect of Karl Urban’s Billy Butcher gaining superpowers of his own, thanks to the evil Vought Corporation’s Compound V formula. The ironic implication here seems to be that the “Supe” hating Butcher has become a Supe himself, suggesting that maybe he’s deemed a deal with the devil a risk worth taking in order to accomplish his goals. He certainly seems like the “any means necessary” type.
Whatever The Boys has in store for season 3, it’s pretty clear that the momentum built up throughout the story so far has no intention of slowing. There’s still a bit of a wait before fans can sink their teeth into this pulpy continuation. But just knowing what sort of madness is in store will make it all the more satisfying when the series finally returns.
The Boys season 3 premieres June 3rd on Prime Video.
