Usher (Independence Day: Resurgence) has been one of The Boys’ staple characters. In fact, he’s been instrumental to the show’s story from the very first few minutes, although his character arc has seen him deal with plenty of struggles. Nevertheless, The Boys’ season 3 finale appears to have put A-Train on a path towards redemption after losing something far more precious than his speed, as Usher explains.

In an interview with Collider, Usher not only confirmed filming for The Boys season 4 will start soon, but he also dove into that extra layer of complexity that’s been added to his once simple character, including getting a second chance at life courtesy of Vought. “In that moment, he’s realizing, “Yeah, I have a second chance at life. Yeah, you guys gave me a heart. I’m still here. But now my life is yours. That’s what it feels like,” Usher said. Usher also explained the intricacies of his character’s Herogasm moment, claiming that despite his heartfelt apology to Hughie feeling like a turning point, A-Train is still on that “act first, think later” mentality when he kills Blue Hawk.

The actor also explained how showrunner Eric Kripke gets feedback from his stars. For example, Kripke told Usher that A-Train’s brother would lose his legs and asked for his feedback on how the character can obtain some form of redemption. Lastly, Usher hopes to see A-Train interact with some characters he’s rarely talked to before, such as Kimiki and Mother’s Milk, so that he can learn something beyond his slow introspection process.

While the MCU continues to struggle to find its new identity in Phase Four, The Boys’ non-stop satire and crass storytelling remain traits that are convincing enough to keep fans interested and asking for more.
