Berezovsky is in a fierce media war with Media Most Group owner Vladimir Gusinsky (whose news magazine Itogi is published in cooperation with NEWSWEEK). The fight is over who will win next year’s presidential race. Gusinsky’s empire tilts openly toward Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov–a man Boris Yeltsin and his “family” of advisers (Berezovsky included) loathe. Kommersant has been reporting the “war” straight down the middle. That its editorial policy has changed is clear. The day after Berezovsky canned its respected editor, the paper carried not one word about it.
